FAq's > Who Rents?Guests visit from all over the country and all over the globe. The expandable list below details why this home and this location works well for my most common guest profiles.
convention center participantsThe Baltimore Convention Center is located approximately 4 blocks from the house. It's almost impossible to get closer to the venue. In bad weather you can walk two blocks to the Hilton and walk the remaining distance to the convention center indoors and thru the skywalk!

Sporting Event Spectators and Participants
Camden yards is literally at the end of the block, and Ravens Stadium is three blocks door to door. Boston Red Sox fans are by far the most loyal group I've seen so far. They typically book these places more than 6 months in advance! You can see both venues from the back decks, and you can listen to the PA systems and hear the roar of the crowds during big plays on game days! The Baltimore Arena is a half mile away. When X-games are in town that happens in the parking lots between Camden Yards and Raven's Stadium. The convention center also hosts events like cheer-leading competitions and volley ball tournaments.
Family Vacationers
My vacationers are typically folks staying on after a convention center event or people from distant states and overseas who are using Baltimore as a base for a Baltimore/Washington DC/Mid-Atlantic tour. Most Baltimore sites are within walking distance or a few miles at most. Access to DC by car or train is easy and so is access to Philadelphia and NYC for that matter. We are also just an hour to Harper's Ferry, 2 hours to Amish Country and much more.
College/University Related Guests
Baltimore is home to numerous colleges and universities, and I have many folks who come to see family and relatives for major events including graduation and sporting events. Most of the major colleges and universities are no more than a 5-15 minute drive from the house. These folks will often use the home to host small gatherings for 10-15 people on an afternoon or evening during their stay.
Wedding Parties
I book about 10 groups per year who are in town for weddings. This home gives folks from out of town a more comfortable place to 'hang out' before and after the festivities. They often use the home for different types of small gatherings for 10-15 people.
'Groups of Friends'
This can be a good venue for birthday party weekends, bachelor and bachelorette weekends, golf weekends, reunions, etc, but please see my additional screening instructions on the bottom of the Rates / Reservations page for these types of groups.
Off Broadway Touring Entertainers
Off-Broadway Tour Events are held at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, also known as "The Hippodrome". My first group of touring performers booked with me in August 2006. They did a super job of spreading the word about my rental and since that time I've hosted numerous groups of performers from shows including:
--Mama Mia
--Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
--Sweet Charity
--Rent
--High School Musical
--Spamalot
--Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
It's just under one mile to the Hippodrome. Most of my touring guests have opted to walk to and from the Hippodrome although some have driven. Many of my touring guests have referred to this as their 'Real World Baltimore' experience.

Folks in town for medical related procedures
I get a lot of requests from folks coming in for medical procedures, and I do book a few each year, but I book far less than one would imagine. There are a few issues to consider with most row house/townhouse style vacation rentals when coming to town for medically related reasons. First and foremost, almost all row houses/townhouses have lots of steps inside and out...nature of the beast...and very, very few have first floor bedrooms with full baths (625 S. Paca St. does have a first floor bedroom/bath suite, which is very rare, but there are 3 steps between the bedroom and the bathroom and the kitchen and living area is on the 2nd floor...)....and once the logistics of medical recovery in a row home become clear to prospective renters many folks rule these out for logistical reasons. Second, medical procedure timing is brutal to plan around, as the doctors and hospitals are constantly changing and postponing, and we (vacation rental home owners) don't have as much flex as hotel operators with regards to this matter. I do the best I can to accommodate those requests but the cancellation policy for last minute cancellations for vacation rental properties in general is far different than that of most hotels/motels, and cancellation and rebooking issues must be taken into consideration prior to booking.
